[lead]Umpiring courses are being held in Gloucestershire as part of a drive to get more qualified officials at league matches.[/lead]
The initiative is being supported by the West of England Premier League (WEPL) and its feeder leagues including the Gloucestershire County Cricket League (GCCL) and Bristol and District Cricket League (BDCL).
The It’s Your Call Stage One and Two courses will be run by qualified ECB instructors through the Gloucestershire Association of Cricket Officials (GACO).
The two Stage One courses will be held at the Brightside Ground, Bristol on February 11, 2018 and at Hatherley and Reddings CC on March 4. Both days run from 9.30am-5pm and will provide an overview of the basic Laws of the game and introduce the principles of field craft and match management. The qualification will give candidates the tools to umpire matches at a basic recreational level.

The two Stage Two courses will take place at the Brightside Ground, Bristol on February 18 and Hatherley and Reddings CC on March 11 (both 9.30am-5pm).
This Stage 2 course is designed to give you further knowledge and skills to enable you to become a member of a league panel. All candidates need to be have attended the Stage One course. It will complement that course by looking beyond the basic laws, building on field craft, match management techniques and introducing the concept of working as a team, with a colleague.

Both courses have been updated to include the new MCC Laws which will come into play in 2018. Candidates will receive an ECB workbook, an MCC official on-field Law booklet, a Tom Smiths law book, a CRB check and Insurances.
The official ECBACO (ECB Association of Cricket Officials) courses are the only way to progress up the ECB officials pathway. There are also courses in Wiltshire and Somerset.
