Festivals, Matches & Competitions
In addition to its weekly session Wicketz Bristol also provides opportunities for players to take part in matches and festivals.
These range from games between different hubs to a two-day festival at the Brightside Ground, Bristol.
The first inter-hub pairs cricket match took place between the Knowle and Southmead in October 2017 and regular fixtures are now planned.
In August 2017, Wicketz Bristol organised one of the Gloucestershire Cricket Board’s largest foundation cricket festivals. Nando’s CricFest was a two day cricket festival held at the home of Gloucestershire Cricket – the Brightside Ground, Bristol. 70 budding young cricketers had the opportunity to train and play on the outfield and meet Gloucestershire’s professional players.
Each half-term Wicketz runs a ‘Powerplay 6s’ event featuring six teams of six players who take part in a cricket skills competition and tournament. Bristol Mayor Marvin Rees even took part in the summer event.
Each August the Lord’s Taverners hold a three day Festival of Cricket at the prestigious Felsted School, Essex. Over 90 Wicketz participants from across the country – including 10 from Bristol – took part in 2017. Over the three days they received cricket coaching from top players including ex-England spinner Monty Panesar. They also took part in competitions and inspirational workshops that covered everything from leadership to street first aid.
