County
Gloucestershire Cricket Board have county representative age group cricket for boys from under 10’s to 17’s.
Both the under 10's,11’s and 12’s play matches against other counties in the country without being part of an ECB competition. This stage is used to develop our youngest performers before entering ECB competition and the GCB try to give these squads as many fixtures as is possible. From 2012 onwards these squads will go on a summer tour.
The Under 13’s, 14’s and 15’s play in ECB competitions against other counties from the south and west as well as being involved with a fixture list of friendlies and tours.
Our under 16's play in a number of freindly games in one and two day formats. This squad is to prepare our players for the change of structure when they reach the under 17 squad.
The under 17’s play in two different competitions, a county cup which is a one day competition also played regionally, as well as a two day competition playing against the same opposition as in the one day competition.
Trial Process
In July of each year all clubs are written to, to nominate players for representative trials. The Boys nominated by clubs from all around the county have the opportunity to trial each year to become part of either the District or County squads and we hope that from this process we will be able to identify the next first class and international cricketers of the future.
If you know of any players you believe to be deserving of a trial please contact the club the player is affiliated with to find out if they are nominated. If a player is not affliated to a club then please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with information about this player.

The GYC Performance year
January- Winter performance programme starts. 12 weeks coaching in an indoor facility from which summer squads are selected. The players identified from the trials will be invited to a 12 week winter performance programme between January and March where our performance coaches will work with the players on a 1 coach to 4 (County) and 1 coach to 2 (District) player ratio.
After the 12 week winter performance programme squads are selected including players that are on the Emerging Player Programme.
March- Summer Squads are selected and letters are sent to the players to inform them of whether they are in the summer county squad or whether they will represent the district they play club cricket within.
The players not selected for the winter county squad will join the players with the most potential within a district in which they play club cricket to become part of that district squad. The District squads follow a similar process please see the district page.
April- County fixtures begin. Fixtures are played between April and August. The county age group squads will then be invited to attend further outdoor training sessions throughout the season as well as playing a number of ECB and friendly fixtures.
May – District Fixtures begin. Districts will play against each other both home and away. The six fixtures are also added to by the hard work of the district coaches finding friendly games for the district squads to play.
July- Trial nomination letters are sent. All clubs with junior section within Gloucestershire are asked to nominate players they believe have the potential to represent the county at the age group above the age they currently play club cricket, as we use this for the squads of the following year.
August- Trials take place. Trials take place in each of the four districts the Gloucestershire Cricket Board have Identified- Bristol, Cheltenham and Cotswold’s, Stroud and South Gloucestershire and Gloucester and the Forest of Dean. From these trials the performance coaches leading the trials will select the players from each district they believe to have the most potential as cricketers and these players will be invited to another trial which is a combination of the players identified from each district. From this trial the winter performance squads are selected. The players not selected for the county programme from the final trial will be invited to a 12 week performance programme held in the district from which the player plays Club Cricket and will have the chance to move into the county programme on merit. The district performance programmes will be held with a view to select the summer playing squads.
Not everybody selected for the winter programmes will represent the county or district in the summer. The winter performance programme is to improve the level of our players identified as having the potential to be county cricketers and is not a summer performance squad.
