EPP
The EPP is effectively the link between County Age Group Cricket and the Academy. The Programme is financially supported by the ECB and in Gloucestershire’s case currently run by the GCCC staff coaches. The principal idea is to identify young talented cricketers who the County Coaches believe have the core skills to not only go on in future years to the academy but also to progress to 1st Class Cricket.
Trials for each year’s EPP programme take place during August. Players are nominated by County Age Group Coaches following the successes of the current season and they are invited to trial.
Gloucestershire’s programme consists of a 1:1 session each week and an EPP group session every Sunday. The programme:-
- Is designed for those players identified as having the necessary aptitude, attitude, and athleticism to be potentially future elite cricketers.
- The EPP focuses not just on skill work, but the technical, tactical, physical and mental aspects of the game, protocols which must be utilised to reach elite levels in all sports.
- Is designed to be a high quality “value added” addition to a player’s County Age Group programme.
- Provides players with the opportunity of reaching their potential.
- Is an enhanced version of the County Age Group Programme
- Is designed to underpin and supply talented players for Gloucestershire’s Academy
The Emerging players programme is aimed at the under 13 to 16 age groups and offers our younger talented players the opportunity to enhance their game through this specialist coaching programme. The programme underpins the County’s main Academy, and sets out to provide players with the appropriate skills to progress to the Academy. Winter training takes place at the County Ground and summer work at venues close to the individual.
