Gloucestershire Youth Cricket League

Gloucestershire County Youth Leagues
Entries for the 2012 Gloucestershire Youth League (GYL) are now open - enter here!
In 2010 the Gloucestershire Cricket Board established an integrated county programme of long over matches for its young cricketers. The leagues are structured on a county wide basis with the winners of the leagues competing in finals for the overall county champions. The leagues provide greater opportunities for more young cricketers to experience the long form of cricket and for clubs to play different clubs across the county. They also improve the experience and enjoyment of playing cricket with young people playing in their age group and to provide more youngsters with an experience of taking part in long over cricket - this is so important when there is so little opportunity to do this at school or district cricket.
It is clear that the clubs participating in these leagues show a greater commitment to youth cricket development for ALL, rather than the few.

In order to promote and increase the number of young cricketers playing the longer game we would urge you to look at linking up with other clubs to provide a team – this needs to be done properly and on the basis of good communication between clubs. A good example is already emerging in the west of the county where four clubs are discussing coming together to provide a shared team at all age groups and under a shared identity.
