This month its the turn of Hambrook Cricket Club - one of the GCB's Clubmark Registered clubs.
The club run 3 Saturday and 2 Sunday senior teams and the youth section run age groups squads at U9/ U11/ U13/ U15 & U17's. Now following a great deal of work behind the scenes the club, and in particular the youth section, are now reaping the rewards.
The club has an ever expanding youth programme which has seen unprecedented success integrating youth players into longer match formats. In just it's second season of league cricket, the Sunday 2nd XI has secured promotion to Division 2 of the Malmesbury Village League and this was made all the more remarkable as the majority of the team are Youth players playing against seasoned senior players from other local clubs. Their Sunday 1st XI also secured promotion to Division 1 and featured a number of more experienced Youth Players.
The club is also pleased to report for the first time ever, six youth team boys have been selected for the various South Gloucestershire & Stroud District winter training age groups. Congratulations go to Billy Hankins, George Hanham, Thomas Wheeler, Louis Martin, Billy Diamond and Connor Williams-Hicks for their selection. In addition Danika Dyer has secured her sixth season within the Gloucestershire County programme in her selection for the Women & U17 Girls programme.
The final success of the year has seen Youth Coordinator Martin Dyer awarded the 'Konica Minolta/ Bristol Youth Cricket League services to Youth Cricket award' at the recent BYCL AGM. Commenting on his award Martin said
"We thought 2010 was a good season with our U15's finishing as league runners up, 2011 has however brought successes to a greater number of young players. None of this would have been possible without the help of a small but dedicated team of volunteer managers and coaches, I and the rest of the club are thankful for all of their help. I would also like to thank the BYCL and Gloucestershire Cricket Board for all their hard work and support given to Youth cricket ."
The GCB would like to congratulate Hambrook CC on their success - a perfect example to all of how the whole club can benefit from hard work and development of a youth section and youth members. We look forward to hearing of their successes in the future.
