vCricket
vCricket is a new initiative, essentially it is all about helping our grassroots clubs find more volunteers. We are particularly focussing on young volunteers - aged 16 to 25, as this group are really the future of community clubs. There is such an array of opportunities linked to a club that there really is a job for everyone regardless of individual needs.

Alex started his volunteering at the club when he first joined as a 11 year old but only formally started recording his hours as part of the NatWest Cricket Force 2010 event. Since then he has completed his ECB level 1 coaching award as well as his level 1 ECB Umpires certificate. A levels have put paid to Alex standing in a game but he has put his coaching skills to good use by helping coaching the under 13 team at Newent. Morgan Evans, Youth Coordinator at the club commented ‘Alex is always the first to get involved in any new initiative within the club and is a great help with the youngsters’.

vCricket is a national initiative to get more young people volunteering in cricket, whether it be coaching, scoring or helping with teas. The club has a number of youngsters involved in the scheme and participation has been boosted by Young Leaders courses that have been run at the club over the past two years. Ross Farrer, vCricket coordinator for Gloucestershire said ‘it is fantastic that Alex has completed 100 hours. It has taken effort and dedication to achieve this. Alex deserves the recognition within the club. The sport is always looking to reward young people who put themselves out for others and this scheme is one way of doing that’.
As well as Alex achieving the 100 hours, Ollie Beale has achieved his 25 hour certificate. Ollie completed hi ECB YLA last year and has been volunteering within the club ever since. As Ollie is too old for the Under 15 age group he has been helping coach them under 11 players on a Friday evening. He is now working towards his 50 hour certificate which he hopes to complete before the end of the 2011 season. Polly Griffiths has also been awarded her 25 hour certificate and has just applied for her 50 hour certificate. Polly has played a pivotal role with the girls section of the club. She regularly coaches the girls on a Friday evening as well as playing for the Third team and Gloucestershire U17 Girls team. She is eager to complete her level 1 coaching award in the close season.
