Working in Schools (WiS)

In Gloucestershire we expect a high quality of Coach working in schools and as a minimum quality standard for any coach, whether full time, part time or on a specific project ,when working on behalf of the Gloucestershire Cricket Board, we insist that they have taken the Working in Schools (WiS) course.

The England and Wales Cricket Board through the roll out of the Cricket for Teachers (CfT) and WiS courses will assist and support the delivery of high quality PE and school sport by teachers and other adults supporting learning within schools.

The WiS programme has been developed to allow coaches to make a practical connection between the requirements of the National Curriculum and how cricket can be used to deliver the striking and fielding unit of the PE curriculum.

The programmes have been designed to ensure a consistent approach to delivery within schools whilst equipping coaches and teachers to create relationships through the use of a common language. By developing the skills of the teachers and coaches cricket can have a positive impact on whole school improvement.

Outline	The course will provide coaches with: An opportunity to review and practice their coaching process or how-2 coach skills An introduction to Key Stage (KS) 2 and 3 of the national curriculum An opportunity to recognise, integrate and apply key education aspects (KS2) and processes (KS3) within cricket coaching sessions The opportunity to review and practice using the Howzat! resource to plan for and deliver cricket specific games and practices The opportunity to deliver micro-coaching and receive high quality feedback The opportunity to reflect on their skills and knowledge and build an action plan to support their professional development
Pre-requisites	ECB (or recognised overseas equivalent) and UKCC accredited coaches
Duration	6 Hours – delivered either as a whole programme (1 day) or as 2 separate 3 hour modules
Venue requirements	Practical and classroom. Ideally an IT facility next to sports hall, failing that a corner of the sports hall can be set up in a small horseshoe/ classroom style. Lap top, screen, projector and speakers will be required
Resources	Pre-course workbook distributed electronically (where required this will also be available in hard copy) Howzat! Dvd-rom resource ECB course workbook Certificate of attendance upon completion
Staffing	ECB Trained Tutors who have completed the Orientation for this programme
Ratio	1:8 ideal 1:12 max (as per UKCC)
Cost	£20 for resources Tutor and facility costs in addition (variable dependent upon County)
Available	Piloted through January 2008 Available from Feb 2008 onwards – roll out to be agreed with your RTM
