Twyford House - Crowned Champions of Bristol & Somerset Indoor Cricket Network
West of England Premier League's Twyford House CC were crowned the inaugural champions of the Bristol & Somerset Indoor Cricket Network's Spring League thanks to a thrilling last ball victory over Bristol & District Cricket Association side Coalpit Heath CC last week. Shirehampton based Twyford beat off a tough challenge from 18 teams who participated in three league competitons located in Bristol and North Somerset between January to April. The first ever Play Off Finals took place at Clevedon School Sports Centre and were watched by a large crowd of cricket enthusiasts. In the first semi-final 'home town' club Clevedon CC could not stop their North Somerset Indoor Cricket League rivals Twyford House from retaining their 100% record as they reached the 12 over per side final. In the other semi-final Bristol YMCA fell short against Bristol Indoor Cricket League's wednesday night champions Coalpit Heath.

The final was a tense affair with skipper Steve Gwinnell's outfit posting a below par 79 for 2 from their 12 overs. Thanks to some excellent bowling by Heaths young bowling attack Twyford House's powerful eight man squad made hard work of chasing down the small total before hitting the winning three runs off the final ball of the match. A delighted THCC skipper Mark Fowler was presented with the champions shield at a packed Bedminster Cricket Club last Thursday. Over hundred guests attend a very enjoyable evening including Guest of Honour Rob Cunliffe, the former Gloucestershire CCC professional and current Bedminster player who handed out a variety of silverware. The rapidly expanding BSICN is sponsored by Bristol based cricket helmet manufacturers Ayrtek. The network will resume again in with its ten week Winter League in October. Teams interested in finding out more should visit www.bsicn.co.uk.
