Gloucestershire Youth Cricket League - Entries now open!

The end of another season brings in the job of preparing for the next. The Gloucestershire Youth Cricket League (GYL) have started their plans already and are now looking for entries from clubs for the new season.
They are looking to do this early so that all the fixtures for 2012 are set up before Christmas so that they can ensure that these are communicated to Fixtures Secretarys as soon as possible
Clubs who wish to enter should email Simon Gordon-Walker ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) to notify which age groups they would like to participate in by the end of October.
In doing so and in thinking about it…PLEASE be absolutely sure that you have the resources and capability (and inclination) to ensure that your sides will play their matches and not concede, for whatever reason – if there is a clash with a cup match then clubs must be prepared to organise rearrangements in a timely manner. PLEASE be absolutely sure that you will be able to play matches during term time and during holiday periods if required – not one or the other; in order to be able to meet your commitment to the leagues your youth cricket season must end at the end of August – not July.
In order to promote and increase the number of young cricketers playing the longer game we would urge you to look at linking up with other clubs to provide a team – this needs to be done properly and on the basis of good communication between clubs. A good example is already emerging in the west of the county where four clubs are discussing coming together to provide a shared team at all age groups and under a shared identity. Leadon Young Cricketers Case Study
Given some of the problems that we have had this year with sides entering teams for Under 15 and Under 17 and being unable to raise sides when required, I would urge you to look at entering just one team either at Under 15 or Under 17- not both. Any team at these age groups who conceded or did not play all their matches last year will in any case only be able to enter one team either at U15 or U17. Please get in touch with Simon if there is a special case to be made for entering teams at both of these age groups.
IMPORTANT: When you submit your intentions regarding next year – you must provide the name of the team manager and their contact details; teams without the person responsible clearly identified will not be entered
The leagues will be run much as they were this year; though organisation of matches will depend on number of teams entering; and we will be reviewing the rules later this year
If there are other clubs which you know might be interested then please pass this note and the website link on to them.
