Cotswold District Cricket Assocation - Looking forward to 2012 Season
Preview of 2012 Season
The CDCA are pleased to announce that our competition Sponsors are continuing for the coming 2012 season - SweetFuels (Saturday League), Moore Allen Innocent (Evening Twenty20 Cup) and D&J Sports (Junior Competitions). Their ongoing support is very much appreciated by the committee and member clubs.
In 2012 there will be 31 teams competing in the SweetFuels Saturday League, organised into three divisions. Last year’s Division One champions were Adlestrop CC again, having also won it n the previous year they are hoping to make it three in a row. Oaksey CC and WindrushValley CC have been promoted to Division One, having finished as winners and runners up, respectively, in Division Two last year. Langford CC were the runaway champions in last year’s Division Three in their first season and are hoping to do well in Division Two this coming year, the other promoted team was South Hill CC. Unfortunately Badminton CC withdrew from the league last year and have not yet been able to reform their club. Division Three has two new teams in
2012 – Poulton CC 2nds return after a period playing in the Gloucestershire County Cricket League and Lechlade CC have entered their newly formed 3rd team.
The Evening Competition will continue in the Twenty20 format, again sponsored by Moore Allen Innocent. It will consist of a league stage of two
groups, played on Wednesday evenings starting in late May. The top teams in each group will then progress through to a knockout stage culminating in a
final to be held in July.
The Junior Competitions are again being sponsored in 2012 by D&J Sports. There are 12 clubs this year entering a total of 40 teams at Under 9, Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15 levels in both league and knockout cup formats. Again this year we are hoping that many of our local Juniors will be selected for the District and County squads. Also, in 2012 we have introduced Girls Cricket with three clubs entering teams – Cirencester CC, Fairford CC and Lechlade CC.
Other initiatives that have taken place during the winter have been - the provision of grants to member clubs to help with their end of season pitch work, investigation into setting up a preferred supplier scheme for the purchase of loam, organisation of umpire training for players, a review of certain aspects of our Saturday League rules in particular a tightening of player eligibility, a change in the method of reporting match
results from paper based to online website entry.
The CDCA would like to wish all their member clubs good luck for the 2012 season, both in the CDCA competitions and also in the many friendly
cricket games they play throughout the year.
All the CDCA news together with competition fixtures, results and match reports appear throughout the season in the local press and on the Association’s website – www.cdca.play-cricket.com. For any other queries please contact the CDCA Secretary, John King on 01285 720278.
All clubs that take part in the CDCA competitions, including Juniors, are reminded that the Pre-season Meeting will be held on Tuesday April 10th at Cirencester CC starting at 7.30pm. This will include the usual business of distribution of cricket balls and paperwork plus information on rule changes for the coming season.
