GCB Supports Gloucester Grounds
Gloucester City Winget's promotion to Premier 1 is a fantastic achievement, but this fanfare is a bright spot in an otherwise struggling sport in the City. Unfortunately, Kingsholm were relegated from the WEPL pyramid, but remain a thriving club at their pleasant Sandhurst base.
Elsewhere in the City, the merry go round continues with Gloucester Civil Service now playing at the Walls factory ground, whilst their former home lies depressed and overgrown, awaiting future plans. Similarly, Arcadians were evicted from the Debenhams Sports Ground and Bharat were forced from the former Whitbread ground at Brockworth and now play at King George V at Hucclecote.
A couple of amalgamations have taken place: Arcadians have joined with Nine Elms and will play at Barnwood Park Arts College, whilst Gloucester Pakistanis have amalgamated with Crescent and will play at Debenhams.
However, with the GCB and the County League pushing hard, the tide appears to have turned. Discussions are underway to provide a short-term fix to improve facilities at the lower pitch at Tuffley Avenue, so the teams playing there can comply with league regulations. The GCB have commenced plans to improve the Debenhams Sports Ground as a flagship project for cricket in the City. Meanwhile, the ECB and GCB would love to support a project to develop a Cricket Centre of Excellence for Gloucester.
