The Gloucestershire Cricket Board always want to here from clubs in the county that are keen to be involved in the development of youth cricket and that look to pro-actively support schools and pupils in their area. As such the Board would like to welcome clubs who have a junior section, and who are not yet part of the Chance to Shine initiative, to apply for the 2012 programme.
What is Chance to Shine?
Chance to Shine was launched in 2005 by the Cricket Foundation to regenerate competitive cricket and bring its educational benefits to primary and secondary schools across the country. The scheme is delivered through individual projects across England and Wales. Each project provides a structured coaching and competition programme for a group of upto six primary and secondary state schools. The group of schools are supported by professional qualified coaches who are engaged by the local cricket club or the County Cricket Board. Each project, up to now, has been funded for a minimum period of five years and once it has ended, the GCB work closely with the schools and clubs to help them sustain cricketing activities.
In Gloucestershire in 2011 there were 9 club based projects and 3 district projects delivering to over 70 schools across the county – in 2011 alone 2825 hours of cricket coaching and support was delivered through the C2S scheme!!
How does my Club benefit from being involved?
For clubs there are many benefits to being involved in the GCB Chance to Shine Programme. Through building strong relationships with their local primary and secondary schools the club becomes the hub for cricket in the community and benefits from increased junior membership. Additional benefits include the development of club coaches, increased media exposure and a significant spur for club development.
What does a 'Chance to Shine' club receive?
