Women & Girls
Women and girls cricket has been highlighted as a priority for Gloucestershire Cricket Board and in support of the development of this area the board have taken the highly positive step in employing a full time Cricket Development Officer with responsibility of women and girls cricket in the county.
Key Areas
- Club Development – increasing the number of clubs that provide women and girls cricket and improving the sustainability of these clubs.
- Schools Coaching – increasing the number of girls that receive the opportunity to try cricket and receive coaching.
- Competition – increasing the number of schools entering kwik cricket and Lady Taverners Competitions.
- Performance – Modifying and improving the existing performance programme to provide high quality coaching opportunities for the most talented girls within Gloucestershire.
Short Term Aims (Next 12 Months)
- To increase the number of female coaches working in cricket clubs to inspire and provide role models to girls playing cricket.
- To expand the opportunities at the Under 11 age group – this is to include increasing the number of clubs providing girls cricket and the development of a Gloucestershire under 11 hardball league.
- A more comprehensive series of fixtures for the Gloucestershire Under 11 Development XI.
- To cement the existence of the Gloucestershire Women’s 20 over league – and to recruit support in the administration of this league.
- To increase the number of girls school teams entering competitions.
Medium Term (Next 12-36 Months)
- To operate Girls hardball leagues at Under 13 and Under 15 age groups.
- To increase the number of Districts that Under 11 girls cricket takes place in.
- To develop the Senior Women’s league into divisions that reflects a clubs current stage of development.
- To develop district/local Under 11 girls leagues to provide local competition.
