Club Competitions
Gloucestershire Cricket Board provides a number of competitions that are run centrally to provide match opportunities for women, girls and clubs alike. As well as the Asda Kwik Cricket Competitions and Lady Taverners Indoor that are school based competitions, the GCB also run the following:
Under 11 Girls Club Kwik Cricket Festivals
New for 2010 these competitions were designed as an outlet for clubs that have recruited girls from schools. Many of which have come from either the Chance 2 Shine projects or from Asda Kwik Cricket. In 2010 4 x Kwik cricket festivals were organised for clubs to enter to provide competition for the girls. Frenchay, Newent, Painswick and Frocester Cricket Clubs all kindly offered to host and support the running of a tournament and the festivals have been a resounding success. Under 13/Under 15 Lady Taverners Club Competition
The Lady Taverners club competition is an 8-a-side competition with rules very similar to the ECB’s ‘Inter Cricket’. The game is designed as a transitory format to bridge the gap between softball cricket and longer format hard ball cricket. A county round of this competition is run to determine which club team from within the County will progress to the Regional finals. Traditionally Gloucestershire have been well represented in this competition with Bristol Phoenix reaching the Regional Finals in the under 13 competition in 2009 and the National Finals in the under 15 competition where the team finished runners up.
Gloucestershire Women’s 20 over league
Again new for 2010 was the Gloucestershire Women’s 20 over league. It was created out of the necessity to formalise the organisation and completion of fixtures between clubs. A fixture meeting is held in the winter to establish all interested clubs and to formulate a fixture card – fixtures are drawn and clubs are given a two week time window to arrange fixtures within. This allows flexibility to occur in the arrangement of fixtures which hopefully results in a higher completion rate. Teams playing in the 2010 Gloucestershire Women’s 20 over league are:
|
Bristol Phoenix Cricket Club |
Frocester Ladies |
|
Cam Cricket Club |
Gloucester City Winget Cricket Club |
|
Colwall Ladies |
Old Bristolians & Westbury Cricket Club |
|
Corse & Staunton Cricket Club |
