Gloucestershire Youth Cricket League (GYCL)

Victorious Leadon Vale U15's

Victorious Leadon Vale U15’s

The GYCL offers young cricketers the opportunity to play a longer form of the game. Local leagues are run in a 20 over format whereas the GYCL offer cricket from 30 to 40 overs. The aim of the leagues is threefold:

  1. Prepare players for County & District cricket
  2. Prepare players for adult weekend cricket
  3. Develop players skills so they are able to bat for longer and learn how to bowl longer and more spells

The leagues available to enter are at U11, U13, U15 and U17 age groups and are structured initially on a north/south basis with the winners competing in finals to be the overall county champions. If your club is interested in entering then please contact Ralph Hardwick.

Since the introduction of the GYCL across all age groups in 2010, the county now provides greater opportunities for young cricketers to experience the longer form of cricket, whilst enabling clubs to play against different teams to what they normally do within their local 20 over leagues. This has has made a major impact on the results and performances of the county age group teams.

In order to promote and increase the number of young cricketers playing the longer game, if your club is unable to enter a team on its own then we would urge you to look at linking up with other local clubs to provide a joint team. Of courses this needs to be done properly and needs to be well thought through with effective communication between clubs. A good example has already emerged in the north west of the county where four clubs have come together to provide a shared team Leadon Young Cricketers at all age groups.

Details of leagues, fixtures and results are on the League’s play-cricket site.
