Summer Ladders

The GCB is always looking at ways to increase the amount of junior cricket played in the county.

After 2012’s rain-affected summer where some leagues were abandoned altogether, the Board’s Youth League & Performance Development Group decided to extend the 2013 season with a ‘cricket ladder’ competition.

Based on the format used in recreational squash leagues where the focus is on playing games rather than winning, the idea was to encourage teams to continue playing beyond July – the traditional end of junior league seasons.

The idea proved hugely popular with 37 teams playing across three different age groups.

The ladder is set to run again in 2017 with the GCB assisting by publishing contacts details for all teams that wish to play more fixtures on their website.

Rather than following a traditional league structure points will be earned, not just for winning but for playing, so teams that are more pro-active have more chance of leading the competition.
