There are a growing number of competitions available for girls teams to enter throughout the competitive season, to supplement clubs own activities.
At the Under 11 Girls age group, competitions are in the form of Kwik Cricket Festivals that clubs are invited to bring teams to. The format is such to mirror the extensive amounts of Kwik Cricket played in schools, providing a fast and developmental format for girls to experience the game. The festivals are hosted by cricket clubs with girls sections and aim to cover different parts of the County, ensuring clubs always have a local festival. The festivals operate on an underpinning principle of cooperation, and it is not unusual for clubs to pool players together to ensure girls get the opportunity to play. Typically 3-4 festivals will take place across the summer.
Also for the Under 11 Girls age group is the Lady Taverners Under 11 Girls soft ball festival. This is a national competition which can see a club progress through the rounds to play the strongest Under 11 Girls teams in the Country. Normally there will be a designated Gloucestershire Under 11 tournament which will double up as the Gloucestershire round of the Lady Taverners competition, so be sure to keep an eye on dates to ensure your club doesn’t miss out.
At the Under 13 Girls Age Group competition comes in both soft ball and hard ball form. For clubs looking for soft-ball competitions, this is provided through the Lady Taverners U13 Competition. The format is a short version of the game which is played with an incredi-ball, providing a developmental format for those new or learning the game. The Gloucestershire round of the competition is played in a festival format on one day, providing an enjoyable day of cricket for players and parents alike. Like the Under 11 LT competition, there is the chance to progress through to regional and national rounds for teams to challenge clubs from around the Country.
There are two avenues of competition for clubs looking for hard-ball competition at this age group. Within Gloucestershire we have an Under 13 Girls hard-ball league which is played in a pairs cricket format, whereby any club is welcome to enter. Depending on the number of clubs wishing to enter, this can provide approximately 8 fixtures per year. Supplementing the U13 Gloucestershire Girls League, is the U13 Lady Taverner’s hard-ball competition which is a T20 knock out format. The initial round will feature competition with local teams before progressing through the ranks to teams further afield.
Hard-ball cricket is the only provision available for the Under 15 age group. The Gloucestershire Under 15 Girls league provides T20 fixtures for clubs, and in addition clubs can enter the U15 LT hard-ball competition to provide a separate competition stream to the season.
