BISHOPSTON judged their reply perfectly to defeat Frocester by three wickets with four balls to spare to lift the Stuart Canvas Gloucestershire Cup.
The visitors, who won the toss, made a strong start at Pounds Close as the village side slipped to 50-5 in the face of some fine seam bowling from New Zealander Jack Hunter and Ryan Adams.
Frocester, though, rallied thanks to a stand of 123 for the sixth wicket between Dan Whincup and Tom Wand.
Whincup was the star of the show with 95 from 103 balls (11 fours and a six) before he was caught by Adams off Hunter who then went on to bowl Wand for a gritty 39 off 67 as he finished with figures of 4-29 from nine.
Adams (3-28) also kept the pressure on while there were two late wickets for Dave O’Brien as Frocester reached 201-9 off their 45.
Will Naish, who last month captained the South and West at the prestigious English Schools’ Cricket Association Under 15s Bunbury Festival, then gave Frocester hope by dismissing both openers as Bish found themselves wobbling at 84-5.
But a partnership of 91 between Jamie Tapper (59) and Gary Booth (42 not) turned the tide and put Bish (pictured above) on their way to the spoils, Alex Russell capturing 2-31 from nine.
