BRISTOL YMCA won the Bristol & District Cricket Association’s Bateman Trophy for the third time in seven years, overcoming Coalpit Heath at Cleeve by eight wickets.
Ashley Bonynge-Pearce (3-24) and Chris Ball (2-32) combined with captain John Colley (0-20) to peg Heath back to 120-8, Jake Williams hitting 22.
YMCA, who lifted the same silverware in 2010 and 2011, then coasted to victory with 15 balls in hand, the man of the match honours going to opener Dave Abrahams (49 not) while Colley also contributed 42 to an unbroken partnership of 79.
This game was followed by the cup final where Lansdown defeated Bristol Asians by 23 runs. Both sides were through to the play off for the first time.
Tom Hankins took the man of the match award for a four-over burst of 6-36, including the key wicket of Sohail who was caught by all-rounder Anant Tambavekar for 69 which included three fours and six sixes on one of the largest grounds in the Bristol area.
Joe Jenkins, Tom’s nephew, earlier top scored on 62 and Tambavekar hit 30 in Lansdown’s 20-over total of 166-7.
