We now have two cricket clubs with disability sections; Frenchay CC near Bristol and Frocester CC near Stroud.
Each club has specialist coaches and run sessions that are open to people with mild learning difficulties and physical disabilities. The target groups for each club are people aged under 18 with the aim of giving cricket opportunities to anyone that has a statement of special educational needs.
If players are keen and have showed enough skill, there is also an opportunity for young players to represent the Gloucestershire Disabled Cricket Club and play competitive matches against other counties.
Frenchay CC- Either Kay Sibley, or Jim Donaldson- 07771 502274
Frocester CC- Eric Woodmason- 07554 452227
Each year we support the Lord’s Taverners table cricket regional competition. We run the competition at UWE in March each year. The winners from this competition then go on to play in a finals day at Lord’s.
Table cricket is a specialist game that caters for people with severe learning difficulties or non-ambulant people with physical disabilities. The game is played on a table-tennis table which has sides attached to it. There are fielders either side, the batters need to try and hit the gaps. It truly needs to be seen to be fully appreicated.
The game is aimed at young people from special schools that are unable to play kwik cricket. Table cricket is fantastic as it allows people to play a form of the sport that is very inclusive and it provides a good competition pathway. The competition is for people 18 and under. If anyone has any questions regarding table cricket please contact Jane Hawkes on 07894 201963.
