DOWNEND launch their defence of the Stuart Canvas Gloucestershire Cup with a home tie on Sunday (1.30pm) against Thornbury, the side they defeated by 67 runs in last season’s final at the Brightside Ground.
Callum Loud was central to that win, smashing an unbeaten 118 from 125 balls (six fours, five sixes), before skipper Matt Jackson struck with a haul of 5-35.
There are three other ties on Sunday.
Bishopston host Rockhampton, Gloucester City Winget welcome Cirencester and Knowle are home to Chipping Sodbury.
Already through to the quarter-final draw are Bedminster, who received a walk-over against Cheltenham Civil Service, and Cheltenham who emerged victors on run rate in a rain-affected clash at Winterbourne.
Kieran Smith (79) and skipper Alex Haworth (74) fired the visitors to 257-7 from their 45 overs, Aaron Blake capturing 3-46 from his nine.
Winterbourne’s rain-interrupted reply featured 52 from opener Ben Slade while James Williams and Josh Rodgers both hit 41.
There is one Stuart Canvas Gloucestershire Trophy match scheduled on Sunday, Almondsbury entertaining Tetbury.
