LUCY Thompson, of Coalpit Heath, was the hero as Gloucestershire Girls Under-13 Development squad held their nerve for a fine six-run victory in a T20 against Worcestershire at Bromsgrove School.
Batting at four, Lucy top scored on 40 which included eight fours, and helped her side reach 104-4, Alys Davis weighing in with 11.
And Lucy then did a tremendous job with the ball, sending down two overs for only six runs – including the final over which went for just three – to close out the win.
Amelia Clark, Leila Peacey, Tola Hillenbrand and Sophie Rayer all took one wicket apiece for Gloucestershire who then went down by 39 runs in a second clash against their hosts.
Worcestershire reached 114-1 and then restricted the visitors to a reply of 75-3, Sophie Rayer unbeaten on 20.
The Development squad are next in action on Monday against Oxfordshire at Wycliffe College, and also face Wiltshire at Urchfont CC on August 31.
The under-17 squad has a local derby against Somerset at Frenchay on Monday August 24 while on Tuesday August 25 the under-15s are away to Wales at Pontarddulais CC.
