Gloucestershire Meteors Softball V Somerset Softball (at Taunton Deane CC), June 26
Gloucestershire Meteors 77 (24 overs)
Somerset 22-0 (4 overs)
Gloucestershire Meteors were denied the opportunity to beat neighbours Somerset when the weather intervened at Taunton Deane CC.
Having lost the toss and been asked to bat, the opening partnership of Chris and Matt Bermingham made a good start with runs coming with some good shots to the boundary.
Charlie Brewer and Ben Lloyd put on a good stand while Saeed Ahmed – batting with Liz – McGrath scored his first runs for the county.
They were followed by a solid pairing of Joe Cordey and James Bermingham who both scored well.
Further contributions from Barney Wright and Eve Chandler and final pair Matt Page and Henry Polley helped take the Meteors to 77 at the end of the 24 overs
Somerset replied with some early boundaries, but the rain closed in and the game was abandoned after only four overs of the reply.
Reflecting on the match, coach Tim Polley said: “This was developing into a very good contest until the weather intervened, all the guys played in the best spirit of the game and it was a very good advert for disability cricket.”
