CALLUM Nicholls (pictured, image courtesy Brian Rossiter) hammered an unbeaten 145 as Painswick cruised to a 106-run home triumph over Whitminster in the opening round of the Gloucestershire group in the Cricketer Village Cup.
The opener shared a first wicket stand of 172 with George MacDuff and hit 10 fours and five sixes as their side reached an imposing 256-2 off 40 overs. In reply, Whitminster were bowled out for 150, Nick Marment bagging 3-19 from six.
Painswick are now away on Sunday (1pm) to Winterbourne who thumped Rockhampton by nine wickets.
Skipper Jamie Wakefield’s 48 dragged the Rams up to a total of 131 which was well within range for Winterbourne with Ben Parker unbeaten on 57.
In the other half of the draw, Oldbury-on-Severn trumped Cam by four wickets and now travel to Frocester who had a walkover against Kingsholm. This match starts at 2pm.
In the Oxfordshire group, Chris Sinsbury bagged 6-24 and opener Tom Stevens hit an unbeaten 59 for Langford who dispatched Eynsham by eight wickets. Langford are now home on Sunday to Shipton under Wychwood.
