The GCB are delighted to announce Kieran Slade has moved into a full time Community Coach role after graduating from the Coach Core Apprenticeship Programme and to welcome Shazil Butt, who joins the GCB as our new apprentice.

Kieran was our first ever ‘Apprentice’ to come through the Coach Core programme. Kieran started his course in 2019 and achieved a Triple Distinction, a truly amazing effort.  Kieran impressed us so much throughout his apprenticeship that we have now taken him on as a full time Community Coach. He is extremely hard working, mature beyond his years and a true team player. Kieran, who plays his club cricket at Winterbourne CC, is also a member of the ground staff where he gives up countless hours of his free time to volunteer on the ground.

Cricket Operations Manager, Chris Munden explained the role was testament to Kieran’s work ethic and application…

Kieran has been a pleasure to work with and shown great maturity in someone so young. He has applied himself incredibly well, to achieve a Triple Distinction was a fantastic effort. When the Community Coach opportunity came up, he was the obvious choice. He is now independently delivering sessions and programmes and doing an excellent job.

Shazil has been involved in the Chance to Shine Street programme as a junior for a number of years and always been very popular with the coaches.  Shazil has a passion for cricket that is infectious and when the Apprenticeship came up, he jumped at the opportunity.  Shazil is incredibly polite, punctual and an excellent team player. He has played cricket in the past for Bedminster CC and Golden Hill CC.

Chris Munden believes the future is bright for the young apprentice…

We were extremely happy and excited to get Shazil in to the Coach Core Apprenticeship Programme. Shazil has been a popular member of a local community programme and at this stage of his life, this apprenticeship is the best thing for him. He has already settled in to the team very well and is very keen to learn. Under the stewardship of Masoor and our Community Coaches, we are eager to see how Shazil develops through the programme.
