The summer of 2019 will see 13 clubs host Women’s Soft Ball Festivals across the County as the GCB aim to increase the number of clubs offering Women’s Cricket.

Now in its third year the Women’s Soft Ball programme is designed to support new cricket clubs to start and existing clubs to grow Women’s Soft Ball Cricket.  The programme aims to encourage more women to play the game in a fun, social atmosphere.

All new teams that enter festivals will receive free coaching from the Gloucestershire Cricket Board and a kit bag to continue activity back at their club.  Each team who signs up for a festival will also receive a free bottle of bubbly thanks to our new partnership with St Austell Wines and t-shirt for each team member.  Alongside the cricket there will also be refreshments and music.

The eight-a-side format is ideal for…

  • Mums of Juniors and All Stars
  • Daughters/Sisters 14+ of existing players
  • Ex-players who want to get back into cricket
  • Wives, girlfriends & friends of existing players
  • Female sports teams/players seeking a summer sport
  • Existing players who don’t want to play hard ball

GCB Programmes Manager Scott Tremain said:

“The Soft Ball Festivals were a real success last year, as 524 unique women took part and we are hoping to have even more clubs and teams involved this year.”

“Matches are played in a really friendly, social atmosphere so it doesn’t matter whether you have played before or are trying cricket for the first time it is just great fun.”

“We know there are a lot of women involved with clubs, as parents for example, who would like to play. The festivals are the perfect way for them to get involved and the offer of coaching and kit is a wonderful way to continue playing back at your club.”

“We have also seen teams made up of groups of women who aren’t linked to clubs, like a ladies only gym, hockey clubs and teaching staff teams, and we would welcome more teams from outside clubs as well.”
