CAPTAIN Matt Cox led from the front as Tewkesbury 2nds trumped Cranham by five wickets to move closer to the Division Four title in the Greene King IPA Gloucestershire County League.
The all-rounder finished with 4-17 from six as Cranham were dismissed for 118 after losing the toss, and followed up with an unbeaten 55 to keep his side – already assured of promotion – on target for the silverware.
Nearest rivals Dumbleton 2nds saw off their Corse & Staunton counterparts by three wickets, Arthur Kane (4-29) and Rohan Donga (4-31) the heroes with the ball.
Tewkesbury’s senior side, meanwhile, slipped up by 20 runs at Aston Ingham but remain second in Division One and pushing hard for promotion.
James Benn’s 60 lifted the village side to 231-7 and it proved to be enough as Angus Bartlett returned fine figures of 5-49.
Leaders Charlton Kings were 95-run home victors over lowly Lydney, Matt Luxton top scoring on 62 ahead of Jonny Hardman (5-30) and Saurav Kamath (4-31) shining.
Jake Dolbear turned in one of the bowling displays of the day for bottom side Cam, taking 6-33 from eight to dismiss Cheltenham 2nds for 185 before his side came up 95 runs short.
Division Two pacesetters Chipping Campden were six-wicket victors at Shurdington, Jac Johnson Fisher (4-20), Jack Groves (3-10) and Sam Nicholls (3-16) inflicting the damage.
Hawkesbury Upton remain second after a 128-run home triumph against Great Rissington, George Bailey and Alistair Bell both thumping 67 before Sam Beely took centrestage with a return of 5-33.
Third-placed Langford kept the heat on with a five-wicket win at Gloucester AIW, Matt Bicker starring with a return of 4-22.
Division Three leaders Rockhampton 2nds were seven-wicket home winners against Frocester 3rds, James Dryden unbeaten on 56 while second-placed Newent dispatched bottom side Oldlands by seven wickets, opener Matt Morgan dropping anchor for 60 not out.
Churchdown stay clear at the top of Division Five after trumping Witcombe by eight wickets, and second-placed Cricklade skittled Minchinhampton by ten wickets, Angelo Rigali the pick of the attack with figures of 4-17.
Kingsholm 2nds, the Division Six pacesetters, overcame Chedworth by seven wickets, captain Ross Tominey unbeaten on 61 and Caleb White hitting 51.
Whitminster remain second despite a six-wicket home reverse against Quedgeley & Hardwicke for whom opener Ben Hopkins hit 89.
The bowling display of the day came in Division Seven where captain Karl George’s 6-31 was in vain for Westbury-on-Severn 2nds who lost by 13 runs at home to Oaksey.
