BRAD Alexander (4-35) and skipper Gareth Nicholls (77 not) saw Shirehampton to a comfortable seven-wicket victory away to Winterbourne 2nds in Pod A of the Martin Berrill Bristol & District League.

Shire’s second win in two outings was based on a fine effort in the field with James Hole (3-22) and Lewis Palmer (2-34) also contributing as Winterbourne were pegged back to 173-9 ahead of the batsmen taking charge.

It was closer at Frenchay who held off Bradley Stoke by five runs in a tense last-over finish.

Eddie Williams (53) and Mike Donaldson (51) dominated Frenchay’s 226-8 before the visitors chipped away at their target, coming up just short.

In Pod C, Gary Booth smashed 143 for Bishopston 2nds who piled up a total of 285 away to their Downend counterparts before holding their nerve for a five-run win.

Ross Robbins (59) helped steer Hanham to a six-wicket home defeat of Almondsbury while Bitton romped in by eight wickets at Lodway.

Old Down are two from two in Pod F following a 24-run triumph away to Bohemians. Joel Scot’s 52 and 47 from Sam Peplow helped the visitors reach 204-5 ahead of George Rowen (3-23) leading the charge with the ball.

Devon Martin (4-27) and Sam Coleman (3-22) bowled out Frenchay 2nds for 154 in Pod G before Frampton Cotterell eased in by six wickets, skipper Luke Baker hammering an unbeaten 69.

And there was a six-wicket derby triumph for Winterbourne 3rds away to Hambrook, Keith Ford (63) and Nick Shine (51 not) taking centre stage.

Suranga Fernando (72) and Suresh De Alwis (58) powered Bristol Lions to a five-wicket home success over Brislington 3rds in Pod H.

And in Pod L, opener Alan Pickett’s unbeaten 75 set up St George Valley’s 165-run success over Hambrook 2nds, Dave Gould, Martin Ubank and Colin Brunt pocketing three wickets apiece.
