Week 5 Gloucestershire County League review

GEORGE Whalley and Charlie Overs shared an unbroken stand of 35 to complete a superb one-wicket victory for Cranham at home to Corse & Staunton in Division Four of the Greene King IPA Gloucestershire County League.

Corse, defending a total of 182-6, appeared to have the match all but won when Cranham’s ninth wicket fell with the score on 148, but Whalley had other ideas, compiling a crucial 25 to bank the points while Overs finished on three.

In Division One, Sam Wheeler’s return of 5-22 from eight paved the way for Kingsholm to trump Cam by three wickets while Alex Gray hammered an unbeaten 84 off 63 (nine fours, six sixes) as Westbury-on-Severn completed a seven-wicket home triumph over Aston Ingham for whom opener Josh Loade was unbeaten on 83.

Opener Dave Waters, meanwhile, was unbeaten on 89 for Charlton Kings who went on to complete a 22-run local derby win away to Cheltenham 2nds.

Mike Colborn’s haul of 4-14 from eight was a highlight of Hawkesbury Upton’s 138-run success away to Redmarley in Division Two where Jack Groves struck with 4-9 from 22 balls for Chipping Campden who dispatched Woodmancote by eight wickets.

Angus Findlay-Wilson captured 5-13 from eight overs for Langford who thumped Hatherley & Reddings 2nds by nine wickets.

Opener Rowan Cartlidge was trapped leg before two runs short of a century for Rockhampton 2nds who overcame Bourton Vale 2nds by 170 runs in Division Three where James Meacham finished with the magnificent figures of 4-2 from three for Tetbury who were 97-run victors away to Oldlands.

In Division Six, Robbie Helliwell produced one of the bowling displays of the day to capture 6-29 for Whitminster in a six-wicket win at Ruardean Hill while James Binns’ return of 5-44 from eight was in vain for Chedworth who went down by six runs at Apperley 2nds.

And in Division Seven, Richard Jones’ battling 91 could not prevent a 42-run reverse for Bourton Vale 3rds at home to Down Hatherley
