Week 6 WEPL round-up

MAX Kelly finished with terrific figures of 6-22 from eight overs to pave the way for Hatherley & Reddings to trump Dumbleton by eight wickets in WEPL Premier Two Glos/Wilts.

The visitors’ decision to bat failed to pay off as Kelly made inroads, holding three return catches for an unusual treble, before Sam Dent (45) and Nipuna Gamage (39 not) led the victory charge.

Thornbury were four-wicket winners at home to Biddestone, Josh Slade unbeaten on 53, while Frocester succumbed by five wickets at Marshfield.

In Premier One, Bedminster moved off the foot of the table with a second successive victory, downing Cheltenham by five wickets.

Jino Jojo (3-29), skipper George Drissell (2-22) and Tom Price (2-28) were the pick of the visitors’ attack as Cheltenham struggled to total 180.

Openers Price (33) and Steve Snell (30) established a solid platform for Bedminster’s reply before an unbroken sixth wicket partnership of 76 between Sai Kamuni (43) and Joe Shean (38) got the job done.

Downend are propping up the table after a six-wicket reverse at Bath.

Bristol, meanwhile, moved up a place to second in Premier Two Bristol/Somerset with a nine-wicket triumph away to Winterbourne.

The home side were pegged back to 162-7 by Tommy Probert (2-23), Dan Jones (2-34) and Miles Kantolinna (2-45).

And the target presented few problems for Bristol who cruised to the points in the 28th over with opener Nic Halstead-Cleak (60) and Kantolinna (51) sharing an unbroken partnership of 110.

Bishopston came unstuck at Midosmer Norton who chased down a target of 186 for the loss of only four wickets with almost 15 overs in hand.

Parikshith Shetty top scored on 67 and followed up with 5-38, including the wicket of Shay Sainsbury for 139, to seal a nine-run win for Twyford House away to leaders Bristol 2nds in Bristol & North Somerset.

Twyford totalled 270 before Bristol’s reply was built around Sainsbury’s fine innings.

At 241-4, the home side appeared to be in the driving seat. But skipper Sam Brewer perished for 28 with Sainsbury following soon after as Twyford closed out the win.

New leaders are Golden Hill who were also made to work hard for a 21-run victory away to Stapleton.

Cyrus Shafi’s 57 and 28 from Tayyab Riaz helped the visitors reach 169. And Riaz then produced a match-winning spell of 5-51 from nine to deny the home side.

Joe Brimble led from the front with an unbeaten 58 for Knowle who overcame Old Bristolians Westbury by three wickets.

Cirencester are the new leaders of the Gloucestershire division after cruising past previous pacesetters Corse & Staunton by 125 runs.

Opener James Parker (77) and Jock Jamieson-Black (65 not) propelled Ciren to an imposing 251-6 before Corse were rumbled for 126, Louis Sabbagh-Holt bagging 3-24.

Apperley climbed to third thanks to a four-wicket home defeat of Thornbury while Rockhampton ended their search for a first win with a 127-run victory away to Cheltenham Civil Service, Jamie Wakefield hitting 59 and taking 3-12.

Frocester 2nds edged Bourton Vale by eight runs, and Gloucester remain second courtesy of a 127-run home defeat of Painswick which featured 74 from opener Jack Whiting and an unbeaten 67 by Dan Brabham.
