FROCESTER beat the weather and Goatacre to return to the top of WEPL Premier Two Glos/Wilts, new skipper Will Naish making an impact with ball and then bat.
Goatacre piled up 306 after losing the toss, opener Jack Haines hammering 118 off 67 before becoming one of Naish’s three victims while there were also three wickets apiece for Devlin Webb and Nathan Rose Innes.
In reply, Frocester were well ahead of the required run rate at 205-3 in the 28th over when the rain had the last word, Naish unbeaten on 93 from 50 (seven fours, eight sixes).
Marshfield, who started the day in pole position, banked only nine points from their abandoned home date against Cheltenham.
But a result was possible at Stroud who saw off Warminster by six wickets, brothers Louis (4-63) and Ewan Gegg (3-31) playing key roles before Amogh Bhatkal thumped an unbeaten 78 from just 35 (eight fours, five sixes) in a rain-reduced chase.
There were no finishes at all on a frustrating day for all concerned in the Gloucestershire division, and it was a similar story throughout the rest of WEPL with only a handful of games able to reach a conclusion.
Bishopston, in Premier Two Bristol/Somerset, were particularly upset at the timing of the final, decisive downpour in their home date against Weston-super-Mare.
The Seasiders were dismissed for 175, Alex Packer grabbing 3-37, while Bish – set a revised target of 105, were annoyingly close at 92-4 in the 16th when stumps were drawn.
Bradley Stoke, in Bristol & North Somerset, came up 14 runs shy away to Bath 2nds in another match where the weather played a major factor.
Bath rattled up 281-5 from 47 before rain meant the South Gloucestershire side were set a target of 168 off 29. But despite the best efforts of opener Tom Laver (86), Bath went on to bank the points.
