The latest in the series of Gloucestershire Women’s Softball Festivals takes place at Newent CC this Sunday.

Now in its second year the Women’s Softball programme is designed to encourage more women to play the game in a fun, social atmosphere. The eight-a-side format is ideal for ex-players who are interested in getting back into cricket or people who fancy trying out cricket for the first time. Alongside the cricket there will also be barbecues and music.
All new teams that enter will receive free four weeks free coaching from the Gloucestershire Cricket Board with teams who played in 2017 receiving two weeks. Each team who signs up for a festival will also receive a free bottle of bubbly and t-shirts for each team member.
GCB participation and growth development officer Scott Tremain said:
“The softball festivals were a real success last year and we are hoping to have even more teams involved this year.
“Matches are played in a really friendly, social atmosphere so it doesn’t matter whether you have played before or are trying cricket for the first time it is just great fun.
“We know there are a lot of women involved with clubs, as parents for example, who would like to play but maybe haven’t had a format to suit them up until now. The festivals are the perfect way for them to get involved.
“This year we have also seen teams made up of groups of women who aren’t linked to clubs, like a ladies only gym, and we would welcome more teams from outside clubs as well.”
