The Gloucestershire Youth Cricket League is the Counties Premier Youth Competition and provides young cricketers from U11 to U15 with the opportunity to player a longer form of the game.
The GYCL is proudly sponsored by Gray-Nicolls, where tradition meets innovation.
What is GYCL?
Since the introduction of the GYCL across all age groups in 2010, the county now provides greater opportunities for young cricketers to experience the longer form of cricket (30 to 40 overs), whilst enabling clubs to play against different teams to what they normally do within their local 20 over leagues. This has has made a major impact on the results and performances of the county age group teams.
The aim of the GYCL is threefold…
- Prepare players for County & District cricket
- Prepare players for adult weekend cricket
- Develop players skills so they are able to bat for longer and learn how to bowl longer and more spells
Clubs can enter leagues at U11, U13 and U15 age groups and are structured initially on a North/South basis with the winners competing in finals to be the overall county champions.

My club are interested, but we’re not sure we have enough players?
In order to promote and increase the number of young cricketers playing the longer game, if your club is unable to enter a team on its own we are happy for clubs to link together to field a joint team. Of course this needs to be well thought through with effective communication between clubs.
We have several good examples of where this has worked to great effect. The most recent emerged in the North West of the County where four clubs came together to form Leadon Young Cricketers at all age groups.
